Although her parents wanted her to marry a nice, rich Jewish boy, Claman moved
from Central Park West to Greenwich Village and started as a Production Assistant
at the Dumont network.
Mentored by powerful women in television like Renee Valente
and Rose Tobias, Claman eventually became an influential casting director, running
her own business in New York City and becoming known as the “Queen of Commercials.”
She also made her mark in film and television drama, casting Richard Gere and
Sam Shepard in early film roles in Days of Heaven and unwillingly leaving her
beloved Manhattan to follow the industry to Los Angeles.
